HC Deb 11 February 1987 vol 110 c252W
Mr. Carter-Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will consider providing findncial assistance to those local authorities which have not yet established specialist accident investigation and prevention teams; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Accident investigation and prevention work (AIP) is an extremely effective way of reducing casualties. We continue to encourage all highway authorities to give priority to the use of resources for this purpose. We want to see all highway authorities saving life through these proven means.

We are considering what further might be done to encourage the development and expansion of AIP work— whether or not highway authorities already have teams in existence.
