Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether any Royal Navy vessel was in the vicinity of the tanker Synetta when it was lost on 25 December 1986 off the coast of Iceland; and if he will make a statement.

I refer the hon. Member to the answer that I have given to the hon. Member for Portsmouth, South (Mr. Hancock) today.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if disciplinary action is currently being considered against any Royal Navy personnel or Ministry of Defence employees over the unauthorised release of information regarding recent naval operations involving damage sustained by one of Her Majesty's ships in Icelandic territorial waters; and if he will make a statement.

[pursuant to his answer, 6 February 1987]: Any breach of security will be dealt with in accordance with our standard procedures.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if any Royal Naval vessel was close to the Synetta when it sank near Iceland; and if he will make a statement.

[pursuant to his answer, 6 February 1987]: It is not our general practice to give details of the operational movements of Royal Navy surface ships and submarines.
