HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c196W
35. Mr. George Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average length of time now being taken to deal with claims for supplementary benefit.

Mr. Lyell

During the year ending on 16 December 1986 the average time taken to deal with new and repeat claims for supplementary benefit was six days.

This represents the time from receipt of a completed claim form to the time when a decision is made on the claim.

64. Mr. Watts

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much was paid in supplementary benefit to single people under the age of 18 years in each of the last three years for which figures are available.

Mr. Lyell

I shall let my hon. Friend have a reply as soon as possible.
