HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c169W
Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many institutions of further and higher education have student counsellors; and what information he has on the way in which counsellors are dealing with stress amongst students.

Mr. Walden

The Department does not have this information. Her Majesty's inspectors have observed variations between institutions in the extent of their provision which has been the subject of a recent postal survey by the Association for Student Counselling. Counsellors are increasingly involved in training programmes for staff which will enhance the role of the latter in helping to counsel students.
