HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c165W
Mr. Litherland

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is Her Majesty's Government's policy towards the extent to which civil trade with South Africa should be determined by commercial considerations, rather than the character of the Government of those countries.

Mr. Alan Clark

The Government's policy is that the level of civil trade with South Africa should, within the limits of our international obligations and undertakings, be determined by the commercial judgment of those engaged in it.

Mr. Patchett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether Her Majesty's Government propose to strengthen the ban on the export of computer equipment liable to be used by South African security forces.

Mr. Alan Clark

No.
