asked Her Majesty's Government:

(i) What is the latest figure worldwide of the number of nuclear power stations now in operation; (ii) how many are currently under construction and (iii) how many of these are of the pressurised water reactor (PWR) type.

According to data published by the International Atomic Energy Agency, on 31st December 1985 there were 374 nuclear power reactors in operation throughout the world, of which 189 were of the pressurised water reactor (PWR) design. A further 157 reactors were under construction, 113 of those being PWRs.
