HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c201W
61. Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will increase resources for the National Health Service in inner London.

Mr. Newton

Resource allocations to inner London district health authorities are a matter for the four Thames regions. For 1987–88, the Thames regions have the benefit of special allocations totalling £10.6 million from the fund of £30 million over two years which the Government have established to help transitional problems in regions receiving less than national average growth. Each Thames region will receive a total increase, from its main RAWP allocation and the special fund, of 5.1 per cent. It is for regions to decide how their allocations from the special fund should be spent, within the guidelines that the Government have issued, but we expect that inner London districts will benefit substantially.

The London postgraduate special health authorities will receive over £2 million from the special fund. This, together with their baseline allocations, will ensure that no special health authority receives a cash increase of less than 5.1 per cent.
