HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c167W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what comparative information is available to him on the impact of nuclear power on the operating costs of foreign electricity industries.

Mr. Goodlad

The methods of generating electricity in other countries are a matter for the industries concerned and comparative information is not always readily available. However, as examples, the latest available accounts for Electricité de France show that in 1985 the revenue costs per unit of nuclear output were less than half those per unit of output from conventional thermal stations. The 1984–85 accounts for the German utility RWE comment that as a result of the relatively favourable fuel costs, lignite-fired and nuclear power stations are used to meet base-load electricity requirements.
