asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what increase in the proportion of the population over the age of 65 years his Department estimates there will be by the year 2000.

Mrs. Currie

According to the Government Actuary's mid-1985-based principal projection, the proportion of the population of Great Britain aged 65 or over is projected to rise from 15.2 per cent. in 1985 to 15.7 per cent. in the year 2000.
