HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c199W
50. Sir John Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make it his policy to promote and enhance the role of the cottage hospital within the National Health Service.

Mrs. Currie

Small community hospitals make an important contribution to the National Health Service. It is, however, for each health authority to determine the appropriate pattern of district services. In doing so they will balance the benefits of cottage hospitals alongside those of larger district hospitals in the light of changing circumstances and so as to secure from available resources the best possible value and level of service provision for all the local communities they serve.
