asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the average number of tanks in a NATO armoured division; and what information he has about the average number in a Warsaw pact armoured division.

As far as NATO armoured divisions are concerned, I refer the hon. Member to the reply he received from my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces on 12 January at column 95. Our assessment of the number of tanks in Warsaw pact tank divisions and motor rifle divisions is classified.
