Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of total spending until 1990, by each financial year, on urban development corporations; and how much of that money is attributable to reductions in rate support grant settlement.

Mr. John Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 6 February 1987]: Total planned spending by urban development corporations for each financial year until 1990 is set out in the recently published public expenditure White Paper (Cmnd. 56–II, table 3.10.10). There is no relationship between spending by urban development corporations and changes in rate support grants to local authorities.
