HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 cc40-1W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much compensation has been paid to sheep farmers in (a) England, (b) Wales and (c) Scotland following the losses endured as a result of the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear accident; and how much was paid in each area under the the categories of (a) fat lambs, (b) store lambs and (c) breeding lambs.

Mr. Jopling

Information on payments authorised under the sheep compensation scheme 1986 is not available in the categories requested. The payments authorised for each leg of the scheme are indicated by area in the table below. The qualifying criteria for compensation were the same in each area, and so the figures reflect the extent to which the different areas have suffered disruption to their normal marketing patterns.

(2) by whom, and where, research projects funded by his Department on (a) the ecology of the grey seal or (b) interactions between grey seals and commercial fisheries, are being carried out; and over what period of time in each case.

Mr. Gummer
