HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 cc136-7W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list whether planning permission was sought in each case of sale of surplus National Health Service property identified in his answer of 23 January, Official Report, column 801; and, where it was so sought, whether it was granted prior to each sale.

Mrs. Currie

Detailed information about individual transactions is not routinely collected or held centrally. The detailed information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. Health authorities are instructed that, where the district valuer advises that the sale proceeds will be enhanced by the obtaining of planning permission, they should make such an application under the Town and Country Planning Act 1984.

Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in the case of every sale of a hospital or land as listed in the answer in the Official Report, on 23 January, column 801, whether the sale was advertised; and what was the district valuer's estimate of the value of the hospital or land in each case.

Mrs. Currie

Detailed information about individual transactions is not routinely collected or held centrally. The detailed information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many nurses have been displaced from National Health Service accommodation as a result of the sale of such property in each district health authority.

Mr. Newton

Although information in the precise form requested is not collected centrally, we are not aware of any National Health Service employee being required, in connection with the rationalisation of property holdings to move from his or her existing accommodation without being offered a suitable alternative place to live.

Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, pursuant to his answer of 23 January, Official Report, column 801, on land sales, he will give a breakdown of the location in each case by district health authorities.

Mrs. Currie

Information on land sales is not routinely collected on a district basis and the information now requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
