HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 cc82-3W
Mr. Rogers

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many National Health Service hospitals have been closed in Wales: and what is the total bed loss as result of the closures for each year since 1979.

Mr. Mark Robinson

Nineteen NHS hospitals have been closed in Wales since 1979. It is not meaningful to compute changes in totals of bed numbers from hospital closures alone since the net overall change is a combination of hospital closures, new hospital openings and changes in existing hospital provision. However, the totals of the bed complements for the hospitals closed were:

Numbers
1979 66
1980 176
1981 201

Numbers
1982 Nil
1983 76
1984 262
1985 162
1986 293
