asked the Secretary of State for Wales when he will announce his decision upon the future of the Machynlleth chest hospital, and the Machynlleth and Corris district hospital, respectively; and if he will make a statement.

The one-month period in which individuals or organisations may appeal to my right hon. Friend against the proposals of Powys health authority for future hospitals provision in Machynlleth expires on 28 February. Following that date careful consideration will be given to all of the views expressed, including those of the hon. Member. My right hon. Friend's decision will be announced as soon after that date as is possible.
