HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 c2W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Attorney-General how many justices of the peace in Northern Ireland have tendered their resignation to the Lord Chancellor since November 1985; and what reasons were given.

The Solicitor-General

Eight justices of the peace tendered their resignations to the Lord Chancellor between 1 November 1985 and 5 February 1987. Two of these arose because the justices were leaving the jurisdiction; two for health reasons and three for personal reasons. The eighth resignation was tendered for political reasons, and the question of its acceptance is under consideration.
