HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 c3W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is his policy on the issue of licences for audio-frequency induction loops for hearing aid purposes; if moneys forwarded in error by applicants is returned; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

My Department expects to make an exemption order under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 this year to remove the licensing burden from a wide range of low power radio devices, including hearing aid induction loops.

In the meantime, we have, from 21 January, varied licence conditions so that all new licences are issued free of charge. Anyone who has inadvertently sent money for renewals falling due after that date should apply for a refund.
