HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 c114W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will consider setting up a study to report into the effects of deep mining on the water table and the subsequent effect on trees;

(2) what representations he has so far received about the effects of deep mining on the water table and the subsequent effect on trees;

(3) if the Government have funded any research into the effects of deep mining on the water table and the subsequent effect on trees.

Mr. Waldegrave

No specific research into the effects of deep mining on the water table and the subsequent effect on trees has been sponsored by the Government. Only one representation has been received on this subject, from Kenilworth town council. So far the Department has received no evidence which would justify setting up a study or funding research on the subject.
