HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 cc11-2W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what action Her Majesty's Government are taking to find an equitable solution to the problems of the people of Cyprus.

Mrs. Chalker

We believe that the United Nations Secretary-General is best placed to make progress towards a solution to the problems of Cyprus. All parties involved have recently renewed their commitment to support his mission of good offices. We give active support to the Secretary-General's mission. He has publicly acknowledged the role we have played. We also lose no opportunity to speak to the parties, and urge them to be flexible and show the necessary political will to achieve a settlement.
