HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 c106W
Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether the final installation and check out of the Boeing E-3A airborne early warning and control system aircraft for entry into service with the Royal Air Force will be conducted in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

It is for the company to decide where the Boeing E-3A installation and check-out work will be done, but in making that decision they will no doubt give careful consideration to the fact that carrying out the work in the United Kingdom will have advantages not only for the Royal Air Force but also for themselves in meeting their commitment to offset 130 per cent. of the value of the E-3A contract through work in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his latest estimate of the value of work to be awarded to British companies involved in the introduction to service of the Boeing E-3A airborne early warning and control system aircraft.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The ultimate value of this work won by British companies subcontracting to Boeing will not be known for some years. However, my Department will be monitoring the value of the contracts as they are let.
