HC Deb 09 February 1987 vol 110 c113W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his policy towards a total ban on animal snares; what research has been carried into humane alternatives to snares as a method of pest control; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government have no plans at present to prohibit the use of snares. When used correctly they can be an effective means of keeping the populations of certain species in check. Research to date has not revealed any practicable alternatives.
