Mr. Fatchett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many hospital beds there were in the Leeds area health authority in 1979; and how many there are in the Leeds eastern district health authority and the Leeds western district health authority in the latest available figures.

The information requested is given in the table. Between 1979 and 1985 the number of in-patient cases treated increased by 32.4 per cent, from 43,827 to 58,032 in Leeds western district health authority and by 15.3 per cent, from 51,012 to 58,802 in Leeds eastern district health authority.
