HC Deb 04 February 1987 vol 109 cc714-5W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will update his answer of 6 March 1986, Official Report, c. 251, to show at 1986 prices Government expenditure on the Scottish Development Agency in each year since the agency was established; and what is his estimate for each year until 1988.

Mr. Lang

[pursuant to his reply, 2 February 1987, c. 534]: Net public expenditure on the agency for the financial years 1976–77 to 1985–86, together with the estimated outturn for 1986–87 and the planned level for 1987–88, all at 1985–86 prices, are shown below.

1985–86 prices
£ million
1976–77 37.5
1977–78 83.1
1978–79 99.0
1979–80 104.0
1980–81 107.0
1981–82 94.0
1982–83 116.6
1983–84 97.8
1984–85 81.2
1985–86 94.9
1986–87 88.9
1987–88 88.9

As Government expenditure on the SDA is expressed in net terms, the figures are not illustrative of total agency resources over the years. This also partly explains the variations between years.
