asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to change the criteria for determining whether planning decisions are called in.

As explained in paragraph 50 of our recent response to the Environment committee (Cm 43, "Planning: Appeals, Call-in and Major Public Inquiries," of 17 December 1986) my right hon. Friend and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales are considering this matter. Any resulting changes will be announced as soon as possible.
