asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the future of the three north-east new towns.

Mr. John Patten

As required under section 41 of the New Towns Act 1981, the Secretary of State is consulting the relevant local authorities on a proposal to wind up the Aycliffe and Peterlee and the Washington new town development corporations on 31 March 1988. Responses have been requested by 28 February 1987.
