HC Deb 04 February 1987 vol 109 cc723-4W
44. Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress made by local authorities in implementing the Housing Defects Act 1984.

Mr. Tracey

The latest information available to the Department indicates that by the end of September 1986 local authorities in England had repurchased some 3,700 properties and had given 400 grants for reinstatement under the legislation. Local authorities are now making good progress with an increasing proportion of properties being reinstated as more approved repair methods become available. The National House Building Council's subsidiary, PRC Homes Ltd., has now approved 28 repair systems, for eight different house types, covering over two thirds of all designated houses.
