§ Mr. Ashtonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what rules govern the outside business interests of individuals either employed by the National Health Service or sitting as representatives on the various management boards; and whether their business interests have to be declared.
§ Mr. NewtonMembers and employees of health authorities are subject to the Prevention of Corruption Acts in the same way as any others working in public service.
There are long standing instructions governing the conduct of members and employees in this respect and I am considering the issue of revised guidance.
Standing orders of health authorities require the declaration of any financial interest or relationship a member or employee may have with a manufacturer, supplier or contractor with whom the health authority may enter into a contractual relationship and any financial interest which may affect the authority's planning or policy decisions.
