HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c504W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the internal market opening measures (a) adopted and (b) agreed during the British presidency.

Mr. Alan Clark

During the United Kingdom presidency—July-December 1986—the Council adopted or agreed 48 individual measures which will help remove barriers to trade in the Community. Details of 41 measures were given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in an answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Southend, East (Mr. Taylor) on 19 December 1986 at columns 765–68. I provided details of the seven remaining measures in and answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Altrincham and Sale (Sir F. Montgomery) on 12 January 1987, at column 5.

Forty-four of the measures were formally adopted by the Council. Four others were agreed and await adoption. These are one of the measures dealing with the marketing of pharmaceuticals; and measures dealing with roll-over protection structures on narrow-track wheeled agricultural and forestry tractors; the supplies directive; arid energy labelling tolerance levels.

Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Trade arid Industry if he will list the internal market opening measures that were programmed for agreement or adoption during the British presidency of the European Economic Community.

Mr. Alan Clark

Work during the United Kingdom Presidency was based on a Presidency action programme of internal market measures to be discussed by the Council during the period 1 July 1986 to 1 July 1987. Details of these were given in an answer to the hon. Member for Newham, South (Mr. Spearing) on 25 June 1986, at columns 174–78. A copy of the programme is available in the Library of the House.

The programme does not specify target dates for the adoption of individual measures during the period it covers.
