HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c530W
Mr. Roger King

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the proposed introduction of motor vehicle dim-dip lighting.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Regulations require dim-dip to be fitted to motor vehicles, except motor cycles and slow moving vehicles, first registered from 1 April 1987 and manufactured after 1 October 1986. Motorists will appreciate dim-dip's merit in preventing vehicles being driven on sidelamps and allowing them to be seen in well-lit streets without the risk of dazzling other road users.
