HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c479W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what provisions exist for immigration control and customs clearance for individuals arriving aboard ship at Dundee and subsequently leaving their ship.

Mr. Waddington

[pursuant to his reply, 26 January 1987, c. 345]: Immigration control at Dundee is carried out by Customs officers employed as immigration officers in accordance with paragraph 1(1) of schedule 2 to the Immigration Act 1971. The assistance of immigration officers from Edinburgh airport is available as necessary.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the discovery of four people who arrived by ship in Dundee on or about 20 January and came ashore without immigration control or customs clearance.

Mr. Waddington

[pursuant to his reply, 26 January 1987, c. 345]: On 21 January two men were detained by the police in Dundee on shoplifting charges and two others by the British Transport Police in Edinburgh. Inquiries conducted so far suggest that these persons arrived at Dundee as stowaways on board the "Banglar Robi" and that they had come ashore clandestinely. If this is established, they will be dealt with as illegal entrants to the United Kingdom.
