HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c515W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many recovery vehicles were dispatched to the scene of the convoy accident in Wiltshire on 10 January and of what type; if a military recovery vehicle was sent to the scene of the accident; and by whom the crane that successfully completed the recovery operation was supplied.

Mr. Stanley

Two recovery vehicles were dispatched to the scene of the accident in Wiltshire on 10 January. These were a military Scammell recovery vehicle for towing operations and a 50-ton crane to right the vehicle involved in the accident. The crane was supplied by Scott-Greenham Limited of Southampton, an approved MOD contractor.

Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why he will not set up an inquiry of Privy Counsellors into the convoy accident in Wiltshire on 10 January.

Mr. Stanley

Because the accident is the subject of a board of inquiry.
