HC Deb 18 December 1987 vol 124 c843W
Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the growth of real take-home pay for a married man on male average earnings since 1978–79.

Mr. Norman Lamont

Since 1978–79, real take-home pay has risen by almost 24 per cent. for a married man on average earnings. Average earnings are those for men in all occupations paid at adult rates, working a full week whose pay is unaffected by absence.
