HC Deb 18 December 1987 vol 124 c842W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Buckinghamshire as to the nature of the cargo being conducted southward on the M1 on 14 December by three police patrol cars and on board two Ford transcontinental lorries, registration numbers KMH 304W and KMH 303W; why police patrol cars were necessary; what was the risk to other traffic; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the cargo was a valuable load which justified police protection as a precaution against possible theft. The nature of the load was not in any way hazardous and presented no threat to the public or other traffic.
