HC Deb 18 December 1987 vol 124 cc840-1W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to how many police were deployed at King's Cross on the night of the recent major fire; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that about 200 Metropolitan police officers were engaged in duties at the scene of the fire and in various support capacities during the night.

Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has as to how many fire appliances were deployed to deal with the King's Cross Underground station fire.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I am informed by the London Fire Brigade that the initial attendance despatched to the fire consisted of four pumping appliances and one turntable ladder:Subsequently a total of 30 appliances, including the initial attendance, were used together with a number of specialist appliances and ancillary vehicles. After some hours a relief force of 15 pumping appliances took over from the original attendance and a further relief of eight such appliances took over in the early hours of the morning of 19 November.
