HC Deb 18 December 1987 vol 124 cc804-5W
Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whom he intends to consult outside his Department in the preparation of a history curriculum for schools in Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

We expect to consult widely. The Education Reform Bill proposes that we should be required to consult the new Curriculum Council for Wales and any other person with whom consultation appears to me to be desirable.

Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consideration he has given to the document submitted by the English Historical Association on 2 February containing a proposed history curriculum for Britain; and what representations he has received about this document.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The Historical Association's proposals were addressed to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science, but I understand they were subsequently withdrawn in view of the national curriculum provisions of the Education Reform Bill.

Nevertheless, we have received one representation about the Historical Association's document from the Association of History Teachers in Wales.
