§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) chairman announced on 16 December that the authority has decided that it should not at present make smoke hoods a mandatory requirement for British airlines and that the issue will be kept under active review. Civil aviation safety regulation is the statutory responsibility of the Civil Aviation Authority.
