Mr. Dobson

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the latest figure for the estimated spending in 1987–88 by his Department on (a) television advertising, (b) radio advertising, (c) newspaper advertising and (d) other promotional material; and what are the estimated expenditures in each area for 1988–89.

The latest figures for estimated advertising expenditure by my Department in 1987–88 are as follows:

Newspapers 12,000
Other
ADAS exhibition/video 267,000
Campaigns 368,000

As regards 1988–89, detailed decisions on expenditure by media have not yet been taken but we expect the overall publicity figure to be about £800,000.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the latest figure for the estimated expenditure by his Department on press and public relations for(a) 1987–88 and (b) 1988–89.

Based on the latest MINIM returns, estimated expenditure by my Department on press liaison and information policy will be £700,000 in 1987–88. A similar sum is likely to be required in 1988–89.
