HC Deb 17 December 1987 vol 124 c632W
Mr. Rathbone

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the drop-out rate among Open University students for each of the last 10 years, broken down by the year of study and type of course.

Mr. Jackson

The percentage of students finally registering each year who did not take their end of year examinations is shown in the following table.

The special activities fund arrangements allow for districts to apply for compensation for fee remissions to unemployed students. My right hon. Friend is quite prepared to consider any proposals from the Workers Educational Association for adjusting the funding formula if this is thought to be necessary.
