HL Deb 17 December 1987 vol 491 c909WA
Lord Orr-Ewing

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To initiate consultations with motoring organisations and other appropriate bodies in order to set up continuous broadcasts to inform motorists of the motorways and main roads which are blocked by repairs, accidents or traffic congestion.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Transport already provides details of major works likely to cause significant delay to road users, regularly updated, through motoring associations, teletext services, radio and newspapers. New ways to improve the information available to road users are constantly being sought and contact with motoring organisations and the media is continuing.
