§ Mr. MadelTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is now in a position to say when he expects the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987 to come into operation.
§ Mr. WaldegraveMy right hon. Friend and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales have made the first commencement order for the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987 which brings into effect on 1 February 1988 the whole of parts I and VI (dealing respectively with the right of first refusal and information to be supplied to tenants), section 45 (the powers of housing associations as regards the management of leasehold property) and some incidental provisions. They hope to make a further commencement order in March 1988.
