To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will meet the chief constable of Greater Manchester to discuss his recent remarks on corporal punishment.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether the Greater Manchester police authority have sought his approval for calling upon the chief constable of Greater Manchester to retire in the interests of efficiency under section 5 of the Police Act 1964;

(2) if he will consider requesting the Greater Manchester police authority to call upon the chief constable of Greater Manchester to retire in the interests of efficiency under section 29 of the Police Act 1964.
