HC Deb 17 December 1987 vol 124 c728W
44. Mr. McLeish

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions officials of his Department have recently held with the National Farmers Union, the National Farmers Union (Scotland) and cheese producers regarding the adequacy of supplies of milk to creameries throughout the United Kingdom.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Officials of my Department and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland have been in close touch with the respective Milk Marketing Boards, cheese producers and the National Farmers Union of Scotland about the milk supply situation.

56. Sir Hector Monro

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has had any discussions with the chairman of the Milk Marketing Board about any new arrangements to supply milk to cheese-making plants presently without supplies.

Mr. McGregor

As I said during the debate on the common agricultural policy on 24 November, my noble Friend Lord Sanderson and I have discussed this issue with individual marketing boards to see whether a solution can be found and I am now hopeful of the outcome.
