§ Mr. GorstTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give details of the number of false passports recorded during the last 12 months and the previous 12 months.
§ Mr. RentonIn 1986, the only complete year for which figures are available, the passport department recorded 173 cases where standard British passports had been fraudulently altered in various ways, and nine cases involving counterfeit documents. In the period to 11 December 1987, 183 such alterations and 15 counterfeits were recorded.
