§ Mrs. ChalkerThe United Nations secretary-general has recently repeated his proposal that the United Nations force in Cyprus—UNFICYP—should verify the size of military forces on each side. We believe this would be a valuable confidence-building measure and urge both sides to accept. Meanwhile, we continue to press the Turkish Government to reduce the numbers of their troops in Cyprus.
