HC Deb 14 December 1987 vol 124 cc421-2W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport to what level the tolls would need to rise on the Severn bridge in order to secure the aggregate revenue specified under schedule 2 to the Severn Bridge Tolls Act 1965 within 40 years of the opening of the bridge.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Projections of future revenue depend on the assumptions made about the growth of traffic volume and the general level of prices in the next 20 years. On current forecasts tolls would need to rise by about 70 per cent. and be maintained in real terms to achieve the objective in the Act.
