HC Deb 11 December 1987 vol 124 cc285-6W
Mr. Andrew Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give details of all Government assistance to(a) British Rail's Network South-East and (b) London Regional Transport in the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. David Mitchell

In 1986–87, NSE received £195 million in PSO grant, and LRT £295 million, a subsidy of 2.43p and 4.48p per passenger mile respectively. This compares with last year's subsidy of £489 million to the provincial sector (including ScotRail) and the PTEs—a subsidy of 15.9p per passenger mile.
