§ Mr. AltonTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will give a breakdown of the funds allocated by his Department to the victims of the recent floods in the Province between(a) the Housing Executive, (b) the Department of Health and Social Security, (c) voluntary organisations and (d) local residents.
§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 10 December 1987]: All funds expended by statutory bodies and given to voluntary bodies from Government are intended to help local residents. Final figures are not yet available, but the Housing Executive estimates that it will spend approximately £250,000 in repair work to its properties; the DHSS has paid £273,000 to approximately 600 claimants under the social security system; £13,000 has been set aside to reimburse voluntary organisations for costs already incurred and a further £5,500 will be made available to them; £56,753 of EC money has been distributed by the voluntary sector directly to households; funds have been provided by the Department of Economic Development for 45 Action for Community Employment posts to be taken up by voluntary bodies and the local councils; and other costs are still to be incurred in providing help.
