HC Deb 11 December 1987 vol 124 cc322-3W
Mr. John M. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the implications for Her Majesty's Government's relations with the EEC of the trend in the number of important decisions reached by majority voting.

Mrs. Chalker

The use of majority voting, as provided for in the European Community treaty and in the amendments to it contained in the Single European Act, will lead to swifter decision making. We support this development because it will speed up progress towards the completion of the single large market, a long-standing objective of the United Kingdom.
