§ Mr. Gordon BrownTo ask the Prime Minister what is her estimate for asset sales less purchases of land and buildings for all Departments for each year from 1987–88 until 1991.
§ The Prime MinisterIt is not possible to identify fully the sale of assets, other than those from privatisation proceeds and sales of land and buildings, within the public expenditure totals.
Net proceeds from privatisation are given in the Autumn Statement 1987.
Figures for sales of land and buildings by Department up to 1989–90 were given in a reply to the hon. Member for Sedgefield (Mr. Blair) by my right hon. Friend the then Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 27 January, at columns 279W 229–30. On the same basis, purchases of land and buildings are estimated at £530 million in 1988–89 and 1989–90. Revised estimates, including figures for 1990–91, will not be available until the 1988 public expenditure White Paper is published.
